Shiloh Elementary School9

Snellville, GA | Gwinnett County

March 21, 2014

This is the best school my children have been in. I recently moved from South Cobb District. Those schools are set up like prison camps, and no teacher parent communication at all. Teachers dont return calls, they also are a bad influence on my children. Teachers there sing secular songs and play them to the students. School is about learning and respect of diversity. I am blessed to have been in the Shiloh School district.

My son attended K last year, he seemed to enjoy it. Now he is in 1st grade and I am okay with him going back. I really think that the school is okay, the teachers seem okay. I did not feel that the kinder teacher fully matched my son, she was "on the fence" about him going to 1st even though he can do work beyond 1st grade level. He was also picked on by a 6 year old in his class, my son complained a lot but the teacher never said anything. He is only 5- about to be 6 now. I really did not like how they did not go on a field trip last year. It shows how budget cuts have effected the enrichment of students. The school is clean and most of the teachers that I meet seem very nice. I just wish I would have done more research on the BS "cluster" rules and chose to buy a house in a nicer area or stayed in NY.

I recently moved from Dekalb County to Gwinnett, and I see a dramatic difference. I like the fact that on top of my son being in the gifted program, they also placed him is accelerated classes to challenge him. Every teacher I have emailed have responded quickly. I also like the fact that the kids are allowed to be kids without every little incident being so serious. Another good point is how they are teaching reading and vocabulary to the students, it makes more sense than what I've experienced in Dekalb County. Another great point is I love love the Parent Portal, it is easy to navigate and shows concerned parents everything they need to know. Lastly the staff is amazing, super friendly and they make you feel like family. I would recommend Shiloh elementary to any new comers. I only have good points.

My son has been at Shiloh for 2 years now. When we first came it was somewhat diverse, the teacThers were excellent, Principal Scneik (I'm sure the spelling is wrong!) was very welcoming and excellent with the kids and faculty, and PTA was very good as well. However, now in 2012-2013, a lot has changed. The population isn't as diverse, the new principal (MR. Trippany) is not very welcoming toward parental involvement and he does not encourage the faculty to be welcoming, and PTA is unorganized. I still think that the teachers are excellent; however, it appears that they have to deal with students of behavior disorders more regularly now. I don't know if these kids came from DeKalb's school system or where, but it seems like they came in like rain. Every child has a right to a good education, but I have an issue when behavior disorders affect the education of other kids in the classroom. There are teachers (inter-related) trained for dealing with such kids; therefore, I don't think that these children should be mixed in general education. Anyway, this school needs improvement starting with leadership! If leadership improves, parental involvement will improve and PTA will improve.

I agree with the previous post. We have been in the cluster for 5 years coming from the Brookwood Cluster and we love Shiloh. The school is diverse though it is predominately black. I have heard of issues in the Brookwood cluster about homosexual problems, it is just kids being kids. It is in every school. This cluster is warm, caring and have excellent teachers and involved parents! My 3 children are excelling in both the elementary school and middle school.

This school is great if you're originally from GA, since GA does not offer the best education. The teachers are nice, and some care, but half of them do not. We're from up north where the education is far more intense than the education here. My children have attended this school for 2 yrs and never taken field trips outside the school. That's right we pay for field trips inside the school! Overall it is an ok school and they're very organized collectively but a lot of their teachers are not there for the right reasons. It is simply a job to them...teaching is not for everyone and it takes a special individual to care about another child's future or potential. If you plan on sending your kids to this school just assure that you do not send them to Shiloh Middle or Shiloh High-homosexuality very prevalent.

I love the work my nephew's Kindgergarten teacher does with her students. She is very concerned about the students and picks up on things that I would not think she would have time to do with so many children. He loves his teacher, which is a major milestone, as he is very shy and does not take to strangers very quickly. He has become acclimated to the school very quickly and really enjoys his school days! Thank you!!

I have 2 children that attend Shiloh Elementary and I love the school. I was caution at first but the school and teachers have been nothing but great to me and my children. I feel the school, no the teachers have out done themselves in helping my children. I have a 3rd grader that had reading problems, but they worked with her and now she loves to read everything. Thank you so much.

The principal in very approachable and directly involved with the children. In order to ensure educational growth and a good experience, get involved in PTA, and find out what teachers you should request for your child.

Unhappy with this cluster, no longer feel safe here, cant put my kids on the bus anymore due to cursing and problems with safty. Moving out of this dist. ASAP! The good teachers are leaving, too. Went from A+ schools to D- schools fast. Classes are too full- the teachers try but discipline problems get in the way everyday it seems. I moved here for this cluster, very sad to see it so bad now. Love how hard the teachers try- but they can only work with what they have and its not enough.

I have 3 children(soon to be 4)that currently attend this elementary school and have had no problems whatsoever. Their gifted program is outstanding and so is their resource reading. My kids academic abilities range from both ends of the spectrum, and my kids have thrived. The diversity, at this school, is essential to their growth and understanding of tolerance. The teachers, office staff and principals have always addressed my concerns to my satisfaction and have happliy worked with me and my spouse with regards to our children.
