Great school! teachers are excellent. Mrs Bullock is the best. if you have a child that need a excellent elementary public school. Head is the one. I have 2 children in Head. My first one is in 4 grade and my younger one in K. Great motivational activities for a solid foundation for the children is created at R.D. Head Elementary school.

Leadership changed the year my child started K, then again in 2nd grade, and wasn't too impressed. In fact the AP had such a bad reputation that many people thought she should be replaced. We have an above average child with no behavior issues. The teachers are good, but not enough oversight or action by leadership when real issues happen. Parent concern are politely listened to but romises for changes are not honored. Even thought many families are moving and fighting to get into it, in the end, we moved out of the district.

Head is overall a great school, many of us parents feel the administration change 2 years ago has had a negative effect. The previous principal and vice-principal were much more engaged with the parents and really seemed to care more about what was best for the kids and the families. The current administration *seems* much more focused on test scores and leveling out the classes for the teachers. The teachers can vary from outstanding to average. The favoritism is very obvious, the teacher in every grade known for being the "best" has all the teachers' kids and PTA boards' children. On the good side - the PTA is very active and class ratios are good. The more experienced teachers are some of the best in the county.

advantages of being at RD head are few.let me try and point some out. Comparitively small school .older teachers are very kind and attentive.Gifted education uptill fourth grade was very good. disadvantages are many. Younger teachers are inefficient and lack experience to handle kids this age.curriculum is not challenging at all.My daughter gets bored in class.it is good she is in Gifted prog otherwise this would have been a waste of five years for her.The pricipal needs to stop patting herself on the back for 'good' scores in county tests.Sometimes I feel that the administration only cares about CRCT results. No foreign language instruction at all.Not all kids are given equal opportunity.you will see the same kids participating in everything.teachers dont take the time out to encourage students who are quite but talented.members of PTA think they own the school.

Quality of teachers varies in this school (older instructors are very good). If you have a child who is having difficulty keeping up with the pace, don't expect individualized care. Supposedly no child is being left behind, but elementary school should be a place where the emotional needs and well-being are paramount...this is not emphasized/prioritized at RD Head. A lot of good people work there, but the staff are handicapped by the screwy curriculum and lack of common sense when it comes to disciplining the children. Our child has had repeated trips to the principals office (traumatic) for reasons that were dubious or petty. We are not fans of the administration there. Good luck.

From the perspective of those from Georgia, i am sure it seems to be a wonderful school. To those of us educated in states ranking far above Georgia in National Ratings, it is clear that this is a substandard educational setting. Everyone is so busy patting themselves on the back, perhaps the truth is just too difficult to face. My children were not happy there and knew they were missing out on opportunities. They, both goal-orientated ,were worried about their academic futures and thought the gifted program was a joke. We moved so they could be in better schools and immediately the improvement was obvious. we were told such great things, but now I can see tht is by people who accept a lower standard.

I am a former student of R.D Head Elementary. I graduated in 2004. My exprerience at R.D Head was great. It is very kid friendly, and when people need help others will go out of their way. Bullies are one thing you dont have to worry about the school has a zero tolerance for bullies and punishment is severe. I loved going to this school and others will too.

Head is BY FAR the best elementary school in the state! The staff exceeds that of other schools and it has remained small and home-like despite the growth in Gwinnett County. There are always wonderful activities to participate in and the fundraisers provide fun and finacial support to this great school! There are several teachers; Mrs. Paul (music), Mrs. Boone (K), Mrs. Byers (K), Mrs. Hicks, Mrs. Lowery, Mrs. Whaley, etc. who have been there for years and still love what they do year after year! They have gone over and beyond what is expected from a school and I am very impressed with the school! One of my children is in the special education program, not the gifted, but resides in an iclusion classroom. He has the best possible education and I am pleased with his education!

I notice that most of the people who rave about Head are parents with kids in the 'gifted' program. That is wonderful, I'm glad to see some kids are having a great time. Meanwhile, if you have a child who isn't 'in the box', good luck. You'll have constant problems, constant phone calls, and meetings because they're so busy, they don't have time for a kid who needs any extra help. I can't wait for my child to get out of this school.

I think this is a fantastic school. It is small and all the teachers and staff focus on helping the child reach their highest potential. My daughter is starting 5th grade this year and has been at this school since Kindergarden. She has been in the gifted program every year and loves the daily challenges and opportunities the teachers bring to the classroom. All administration here has proven to be very responsive to the parents and children. My daughter loves her school, teachers and we love her academic success and the fact that they are helping her reach her full potential.

Wonderful school! Both my daughters are in the gifted program (Focus) and have really thrived and succeeded here (have attended for three years). Teachers are very caring and encourage parent involvement, admin is very proud of the schools test scores and working hard to keep them high. PTA works VERY hard and provides many extra services for children. Very satisfied!
